Stoa of Attalos Hephaisteion
Look out for the hot spots!

It was surrounded by public buildings and temples and stoas. In this picture you can see inter alia the Temple of the blacksmith god, Hephaistos. The low hill on which it sits was the area where blacksmiths had their forges and potters had their workshops. This view of the civic centre of Athens was taken from the Acropolis which was the religious focus of Athenian life.
